(un)California Dreaming

Though this is the place with endless possibilities, California might be the antithesis of many graduating college students. This has been brought about from countless resumes and cover letters sent out and getting responses that humiliate my education [ do I feel smarter and more confident about myself than these individuals make me...yes ].

I took this photo the other night. The more I look at it, the more I become jealous. No, I am not looking to start a family [ ever ], but I am jealous of this new being that is in this world. This child is ignorant of what truly exists and is not subject to monotonous tasks of everyday life that make us "get by."

The reason that I am writing this angst-ish entry is due to one response I received for an internship application. Let me preface my rant by stating that I understand why the message was sent to me, but when your cover letter / resume / and communication between said party has stated skills that exceed expectations for a position within your company that you do not insult the applicant.

hidden in the hallways of life

Not many people realize that I went to school for Marketing Communications with a strong focus in Public Relations. I can take pretty pictures, I can sell things, I can market and promote just about anything, and when it comes time to understanding communications between all aspects of life, I feel I have a strong grasp. Well, the other day after I sent my resume and cover letter to company XXX, I was hastily replied to [ honestly, within twenty minutes ]. The response was quite exciting, until I read further. Filled with jargon which I am always anticipating, simply because people want to seem smarter than they really are, and then states that person XXX does this to weed out the people that are unable to preform this job. Person XXX demanded that I write a 650 word essay to, basically, sell him marketing 101. As the email reads further it states that I am not supposed to tell him obvious reasons, but the more legitimate reasons why companies want to market themselves.

Though I would have gladly jumped to an occasion when I was still studying in college, I felt that the email response was nothing more than an expectations needing to be met to receive meager pay. This rant is coming around, I promise.

Things I have noticed on my job hunting so far in California are that people are truly incapable of hiring anyone. I am working a job right now which proves this point, but that is for another time. I understand that hiring someone is an investment that these companies need to make, but when trying to invest the least amount of money to obtain assets [ new hires, yes all we are are assets to these companies ] they are skimming off too many layers. They are making their wants for experience too hard for any college graduate to get hired and then the people with the skill sets that they want are too experienced to work for the pay offered.

These photos are too familiar and too ironic to my emotions right now.

Though California is full of opportunity, there seems to be too many people without the want to take it. These people are standing in the way of too many people too.

I am going to leave you with a video...
